SPRINGFIELD, VA, December 19, 2013 – Companies love to talk about their safety records. However, few organizations are as committed to safety as Interstate. For the fourth year in a row, Interstate is proud to announce that it received the prestigious Fleet Safety Award in the under five million miles mileage category from the American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA). AMSA is the only national trade association for the moving and storage industry.

“We are proud to receive AMSA’s award,” says John (J.D.) Morrissette, President of Interstate Van Lines, Inc. “We would like to recognize Interstate’s Safety, Operations and Maintenance Group for its hard work and effort, and also thank all of our employees who practice safety day in and day out,” adds Morrissette.

Interstate has either received first place or runner-up since 1997, exemplifying the company’s commitment to safety on and off the road. Every year, Interstate’s safety team creates an aggressive program incentivizing drivers to achieve high-quality safety scores. Additionally, Interstate makes sure that the entire organization is compliant with regulations set forth by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Winners were chosen when matched against similar sized carriers, and judged on seven behavior characteristics, including Cargo Related, Controlled Substance and Alcohol, Crash Indicator, Driver Fitness, Fatigue Driving, Unsafe Driving and Vehicle Maintenance. Interstate ranks among the overall best in each category, and has the best safety record among all categories.

Interstate will accept its award at AMSA’s annual conference in February in San Diego.
