Peace of mind from A to B
Over 75 years of Interstate Moving
Moving to another state or undertaking a cross-country move is a big step for you and your family. Not only does it involve big changes in everyone’s lives, but it involves the movement of your physical memories across a long distance to a place you may not be intimately familiar with. An interstate move means leaving your home and your community — a big change for everyone in your family.
Starting this next chapter of your life is an exciting time. Planning a move can take away from the excitement of it, making it feel like a chore instead of an opportunity. Your household goods are a priority, but so is being able to focus on the promise of your next adventure.
Take the stress out of your next interstate move by choosing the long-distance mover who has your needs built into its name. Interstate Van Lines is a member of the American Moving & Storage Association (AMSA) and is an AMSA-certifed ProMover – evidence of our commitment to honest, ethical, efficient and quality moving services.
As an experienced domestic household goods mover and domestic move management company, Interstate provides the experience and consistency you can trust to safely and securely move your items no matter your destination. In addition, our move managers work closely with relocation management companies (RMCs), employers, transferees and families in helping them to manage household goods moves, and will connect them to a network of reputable and quality movers.
We focus on the road so you can focus on the horizon
A long-distance move involves a lot of details that customers shouldn’t have to manage. We put our moving teams through extensive, 80 hours of hands-on training and instruct them in the best practices for packing and transporting your items, so you can have peace of mind as you anticipate your move. And when the day finally comes, all our trucks are outfitted with GPS tracking, so we know where your belongings are every step of the way.
Plus, with a personal move coordinator who manages logistics and schedules, you’ll be free of having to plan all the nitty-gritty details, letting you focus on the more important things that go into your move – like caring for your family.

Not sure where to start packing
We offer three levels of packing assistance to help you gather all your belongings for your move.
A pit stop for your belongings
With short- and long-term storage options, don’t let your belongings determine when and how you move.
How much does long-distance moving cost?
A lot goes into every interstate move – distance, time, weight, the number of belongings and extra details or care for special items. Given that, we can only provide our customers with an accurate estimate once we know all the details.
We want the estimate process to be as easy as possible for our customers, so we offer our Virtual Move Survey — a way to get an estimate right from your smartphone or tablet from the comfort of your own home. Just set up a time with our team, give us a virtual tour of your home, noting details or points of interest for your move, and we can give you an accurate estimate of your move within one business day. Or, if you prefer and are located in the metro Washington, D.C. area, one of our Move Consultants can visit your home at your convenience to survey your belongings in person.
What is considered a long-distance move?
While there is no set definition for what makes a move long-distance, a general rule of thumb for most people is that if your move is over 50 miles from your current home or goes beyond state lines, it is considered a long-distance or interstate move. These types of moves usually require a little more planning given the distance, time and travel considerations that are often involved in transporting items over these longer distances.
