Don’t Make a Move Until You Ask These Questions

At Interstate Moving & Storage, we have been moving our customers’ most valued possessions down the street, across the country, and around the world since 1943. Last year alone, we served more than 19,000 satisfied customers.

Even if this isn’t your first move, it’s hard to know which questions to ask. We compiled some of our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). Ask these questions of other moving companies that you are evaluating, and use the answers in your decision making process.

  • Do you offer free in-home estimates? Yes. Interstate visits your home to see your space and belongings in person. It’s the only way to give you a clear idea of what your move will cost. Other moving companies may give over-the-phone estimates, which will more than likely result in lots of surprises on your final bill.

  • How do you ensure accuracy in your estimate? Interstate takes everything into account, including what you are moving, the style of your home, the ease of access, whether you’ll need special handling for extraordinary items, such as antiques or art, and whether you want packing and/or unpacking services. Next, we estimate how much your shipment will weigh. Since the weight is a well-educated guess, the actual weight of your belongings may vary once your shipment is on the truck.

  • How do you make the move easier on me? Once you choose Interstate, you will be assigned a personal Move Manager, who will handle your move from start to finish. This trained professional will coordinate with your Move Consultant to customize your move. He or she will also set dates, schedules, and milestones based on your timeframe, and make sure everything happens on time.

  • Are your teams professionally trained? Yes. Interstate teams go through a rigorous training program of a minimum of 80 hours of hands-on training and classroom education. Interstate’s training facility is state-of-the-art with an onsite, fully furnished training talking house. In fact, Interstate was the very first moving company to develop training facilities and a strict program.

  • How do you protect my property? Interstate uses a proprietary method called UltraPak®, where furniture is wrapped in heavy duty plastic inside the home before its moved to the truck. The Move Teams also protect doorways, banisters and flooring as well to ensure the utmost protection of your property.

  • What certifications and awards has your company earned?  Interstate is an AMSA (the authority on local and long-distance moves in the U.S.) ProMover®, and has won numerous awards and certifications. Here are just a few:
    • ISO 9001:2008 Certification
    • Eleven consecutive year winner of the National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA) Quality Award
    • Four consecutive year winner of the American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA) Fleet
    • Safety Award
    • SmartCEO 100 Best Run Company
    • Four years in a row: Inc. 500/5000’s Fastest Growing Private Company
    • Quality First—Blue Diamond Award presented by Business Week
    • National Capital Business Ethics Award

  • How long does it take to process claims? Interstate processes claims within 30 days or less. But thanks to training and UltraPak®, our company has one of the lowest claims rate in the business.

  • How long has your company been in business? Interstate opened its doors in 1943. In that time, we have seen and done just about everything – and gained a great deal of experience when it comes to moving people, goods, products, corporations, the government, the military and more.
