SOLAS Container Weight Verification Requirement

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has amended the Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) to require verification of container weight as a condition for loading a packed container onto a ship. This requirement becomes effective July 1, 2016, which is the result of efforts to avoid maritime hazards and fatalities attributable to the improper loading of container ships due to inaccurate reporting of container weights.
